US VP-elect Kamala Harris picks all-woman veteran team for Chief of Staff, NSA, Domestic Policy Advisor

US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris declared the names of senior members of her staff on Thursday. The all-woman team, said Harris, has the experience to serve the people of America from day one.

Currently serving as the Chief of Staff to former president Bill Clinton, Tina Flournoy will be Kamala Harris’ chief of staff. A Democratic Party veteran, Flournoy was Assistant to the President for Public Policy at the American Federation of Teachers.

She has also worked closely with Democratic presidential and vice-presidential campaigns in the past, including in 1992 and 2000.

“Tina brings a strong commitment to serving the American people, and her leadership will be critical as we work to overcome the unprecedented challenges facing our nation,” US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris said in a statement.

Ambassador Nancy McEldowney has been named as Harris’ National Security Advisor. “Serving as my National Security Advisor will be Ambassador Nancy McEldowney, whose distinguished Foreign Service career and leadership abroad will be invaluable as we keep the American people safe and advance our country’s interests around the world,” Kamala Harris said as per the Biden-Harris Presidential Transition team.

A seasoned diplomat with over 30 years in the US Foreign Service, McEldowney served as the US’ ambassador to Bulgaria, Charge d’Affaires in Turkey and Deputy Chief of Mission in Azerbaijan. She also has to her credit one term as the Director of the Foreign Service Institute during her time with the US Department of State.

For the crucial post of Domestic Policy Advisor, US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris chose Rohini Kosoglu. A senior advisor on the Biden-Harris Presidential Transition Team, Kosoglu is a former resident fellow at the Institute of Politics at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Apart from being the first South Asian American woman to serve as Chief of Staff in the United States Senate, she was also Harris’ Chief of Staff for her Senate office and presidential campaign.

Describing Rohini Kosoglu, US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris said in a statement that she is “also one of my closest and most trusted aides from the Senate and presidential campaign”.

“Together with the rest of my team, today’s appointees will work to get this virus (Covid-19 under control, open our economy responsibly and make sure it lifts up all Americans, and restore and advance our country’s leadership around the world,” US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris added.
