UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the stay-at-home lockdown in Britain will continue till December 2. According to the latest figures, the novel coronavirus has claimed 55,024 lives in Britain to date.
Praising the “scientific cavalry” which is inching closer to an effective Covid-19 vaccine, Boris Johnson said, “Christmas cannot be normal and there is a long road to spring but we have turned a corner and the escape route is in sight.”
The British Prime Minister made the remarks while virtually addressing the House of Commons from his official residence on London’s Downing Street. Boris Johnson is currently in isolation after he came in contact with a Member of Parliament who later tested positive for coronavirus.

Referring to UK’s Covid Winter Plan which will remain in force at least till March 2021, PM Boris Johnson said, “From next Wednesday people will be able to leave their homes for any purpose and meet other people in public places, subject to the rule of six.”
Starting next week, the UK will enforce a three-tiered system which will initially see the reopening of shops, gyms and churches. The British government has divided Covid-19 hotspots into Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 for this purpose. Regions will be shuffled into the three tiers on the basis of new cases every 14 days.
When national restrictions end on 2 December we will return to a regional tiered approach in England.

Those living in Tier 1 regions will continue to work from home, while in Tier 2 regions, establishments will be permitted to serve alcohol only with a meal. Similarly, all hospitality businesses will remain closed in Tier 3 regions. In tiers 1 and 2, sports, theatres and concert halls will resume operations with spectators in adherence to social distancing norms.
While referring to the Oxford University’s announcement over results of Phase 3 clinical trials of its coronavirus vaccine, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson also said that it is crucial for Britain not to “squander” the gains from the past few weeks of stay-at-home lockdown.
