Donald Trump calls catching coronavirus ‘blessing from God’, hits out at China |

In a video message posted on his official social media handles, US President Donald Trump said that catching the coronavirus was a ‘blessing from God’.

“I feel perfect. I think this was a blessing from God that I caught it. This was a blessing in disguise. I caught it, I heard about this [Regeneron] drug and I said let me take it, it was my suggestion, and it was incredible. It did a fantastic job,” said Donald Trump.

The video comes nearly six days after the president announced on Twitter that he and the First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for coronavirus.

In the video message, which was shot outside the Oval Office, Donald Trump introduced himself as ”your favourite president” and went on to talk about the medicines he was given for his treatment.

“I got back from Walter Reed Medical Centre a day ago. I spent four days there. And.. I didn’t have to. I could have stayed at the White House but the doctors said because you are the president, let’s do it”.

Donald Trump praises drug Regeneron

In the video where he is dressed in a suit and not wearing a mask, Trump extensively spoke about the medicines, drugs that were given to him and said that they were ‘therapeutic’.

“I spent four days there [in hospital] and i wasn’t feeling so hot and within a very short period of time they gave me Regeneron. It was like, unbelievable. I felt good. Immediately. I felt as good, three days ago as I do now,” Trump said.

President Trump further said he was authorising federal acquisition of Regeneron and a new, similar anti-Covid-19 drug from Ely Lilly for free distribution to hospital patients nationwide.

“If I had not caught the coronavirus, we would have been looking at it like a number of other drugs. But, it really did a fantastic job. That’s what I want for everybody. I want everybody to be given the same treatment as your President because I feel great. I feel like perfect,”

Trump attacks China for coronavirus

Next, Donald Trump hit out at China for the coronavirus.

“I wanna get for you what I got for me. Because it was not your fault that you caught coronavirus. It was China’s fault and China is going to pay a big price for what they have done to this country and the world. We are going to get this drug to the hospital and our military is going to do the distribution. It will be free, you will not have to pay for it. We are waiting for emergency use authorisation and it is gonna be more than therapeutic,” said the 74-year-old president.

Donald Trump on coronavirus vaccine

Donald Trump hinted that politics will not let a vaccine be launched in America before the US elections.

“We are going to have a vaccine very very shortly. I think we should have it before the elections. But the politics gets involved, and that is okay, they wanna play their games. So it is going to be right after the election,” he said.

Trump takes credit

The US President minced no words while trying to praise himself and his government for advancement in coronavirus vaccine and medicine research.

“We did it, no one else could have done it. No one else would have been able to do it. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has acted as quickly as possible because I pushed them. They have never acted so quickly in history, no other president has pushed them as much as I have. But the FDA is approving things in a matter of weeks that used to take years,” he said.

His video came just hours before Vice President Mike Pence and Senator Kamala Harris, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, face each other in one of the most anticipated vice presidential debates in years.

In a previous video filmed after his return to the White House, Trump urged Americans not to be afraid of the virus or to dominate their lives – a statement that alarmed many medical experts given hundreds of Americans are still dying each day from coronavirus.

Trump, 74, and First Lady Melania tested positive for Covid-19 Thursday night. The president was taken to a military hospital for treatment, which the White House said was taken as a “matter of abundance caution”.

After spending four days, he came back to the White House on Monday.

Later, the president removed his mask on the balcony of the White House, where several staff and aides have tested positive for the virus in recent days.

On Wednesday doctors said Trump is now symptom-free.

“He’s now been fever-free for more than four days, symptom-free for over 24 hours, and has not needed nor received any supplemental oxygen since initial hospitalisation,” White House physician Dr Sean Conley said.
