India’s active cases below 10-lakh mark for 10 days in ‘unbroken chain’: Health ministry
According to the Union health ministry, India has crossed a “landmark milestone” with total active cases in the country “sustained below the 10 lakh mark for 10 days in an unbroken chain”. With high levels of recoveries (more than 52 lakh, “India is maintaining its global position as the country with the maximum number of recovered Covid patients”, the ministry said. It further said that the higher number of daily recoveries and persistently dipping mortality rate across the states/UTs are resulting in a lower number of active cases on a daily basis.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government has announced guidelines for ‘Unlock 5.0’ which provided relaxations in Covid-19 restrictions while it has also extended the lockdown till October 31. Also, the Uttar Pradesh government has issued another set of guidelines for the next phase of relaxation of the Covid-19 lockdown and allowed more activities, including the reopening of cinemas, theatres, schools and universities. The guidelines also give relaxation on public gatherings in view of upcoming festivals like Durga Puja, Dussehra and Diwali.
