Trump fires National Security Advisor John Bolton, to name new NSA next week

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he has fired his National Security Advisor John Bolton with whom he “strongly disagreed” on many issues.

“I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration, and therefore I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning,” Trump tweeted.

I thank John very much for his service, he said adding that he will be naming a new National Security Advisor next week.

Bolton, however, contradicted Trump saying he had offered to resign last night but President suggested to “talk about it tomorrow.”

“I offered to resign last night and President Trump said, “Let’s talk about it tomorrow”, Bolton said in a tweet.

Earlier, the White House said the Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and John Bolton would hold a media briefing at 1:30 p.m (11 pm IST.

The White House did not provide any details on the topic of the briefing in its announcement.
