Trump dismisses rumours of bedbugs at his Doral resort in Miami being promoted for G7

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday denied ‘false and nasty’ rumours about Trump National Doral, his private golf club in Miami and supposed venue for the next G7 summit, being a nest of bedbugs. He called the rumour of insect infestation one cooked up by ‘Radical Left Democrats’.

“A made-up Radical Left Story about Doral bedbugs, but Bret Stephens is loaded up with them! Been calling me wrong for years, along with the few remaining Never Trumpers – All Losers!” Trump tweeted.

Before, he had continued denying the rumours once it surfaced on the internet, saying that there are no bedbugs in Doral, and the site was intentionally being maligned as it was ‘under consideration for the next G7’.

“No bedbugs at Doral,” the US President had tweeted earlier on Tuesday, “The Radical Left Democrats, upon hearing that the perfectly located (for the next G-7 Doral National MIAMI was under consideration for the next G-7, spread that false and nasty rumor. Not nice!”

The rumour supposedly surfaced based on a lawsuit by New Jersey executive Eric Linder in 2016 alleging that he had been greeted by bloodsucking bedbugs upon waking up one morning at the resort’s $300-a-night villa. The club had reportedly settled the lawsuit with Linder on that very year.

The US President had said on Monday that he would probably host next year’s Group of Seven summit of developed world leaders at the Trump National Doral golf resort near Miami.

The G7 countries take it in turn to stage the summit, often choosing locations that show off areas of natural beauty.

Trump said the Florida resort was a perfect choice, both due to its size and the fact it was just a five-minute drive from Miami airport.

“They love the location of the hotel, they also like the fact is it right next to the airport for convenience. And it is Miami, Doral, Miami, so it is a great area,” he had said during this year’s summit in the French coastal town of Biarritz.

He said a final decision had yet to be taken but added: “We haven’t had anything that could even come close to competing with it, especially when you look at the location.”
