Jaishankar likely to visit Dhaka in August: Bangladesh foreign minister

Abdul Momen said his Indian counterpart Jaishankar has already accepted his invitation to visit Bangladesh and currently, Dhaka and New Delhi are working on finalising his visit to the country.

Jaishankar had earlier assured that he will visit Bangladesh.

External Affairs Minister (EAM S Jaishankar is likely to visit Bangladesh in August, Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said in his Dhaka office on Monday.

“He [Jaishankar] may arrive on August 20 or 21. It will be a courtesy trip,” Abdul Momen said while interacting with a group of media persons at his office at the foreign ministry.

Abdul Momen said his Indian counterpart Jaishankar has already accepted his invitation to visit Bangladesh and currently, Dhaka and New Delhi are working on finalising his visit to the country.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Syed Muazzem Ali had earlier called on the Indian foreign minister in New Delhi and conveyed the Bangladesh foreign minister’s invitation to visit Dhaka.

Last month, Momen had invited Jaishankar when he held first meeting with his new Indian counterpart on the sidelines of the 5th Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA.

During the meeting, Jaishankar had assured that he will visit Bangladesh at his convenient time.
