State of the Union address: I will get that wall built, says US President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump delivered the much awaited State of the Union address on February 5, 2019.

Donald Trump did try to heal the bitter political rift between Democratic and Republican parties but stayed firm on his position on the US-Mexico border wall. US Government went into a shutdown recently over the issue of a border wall between the United.

Even State of the Union address had to be postponed due to the shutdown.

Here is what Donald Trump said during the State of the Union address today.

On US-Mexico Border Wall:

Declaring emphatically that he “will the mother’s womb moments before birth”. He was cheered on by the conservative lawmakers in the house.

However, Trump received widespread criticism for his comments. US Senator Kamala Harris asked Donald Trump to not tell women what to do with their bodies.

Donald Trump on Global Trade Deals:

Donald Trump maintained his stance on the American role in global trade. His views have been termed as ‘protectionist’

He said that NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement is a “catastrophe”. NAFTA is a trilateral trade agreement between the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The agreement is said to be crucial for trade in the North American continent.

Mentioning China, Trump said that he will make or renegotiate trade deals with terms favourable to America.
